Growing up I played competitive basketball,. As an adult I noticed that the kids I played with on a competitive level all grew up to be successful as adults. Many of my basketball friends as a child are now business owners, doctors, lawyers, successful in their personal life. I do not believe this is a coincidence.
Maple basketball believes that success in basketball is success in life. As a youth many lessons are learned on the basketball court. Players have to work hard for practices, they must overcome countless obstacles to succeed in basketball. Some of these obstacles are learning to deal with pressure. Young players playing basketball also face difficult situations such as failure. As a youth player, players learn to deal with these emotions and difficult situations. Later on in life in situations that arise in university, work, personal life- they're able to take the lessons learned as a young athlete and apply it to their adult life. This is the reason Maple basketball takes its program so seriously. Maple basketball feels that they're not just teaching basketball, but they are teaching young people how to become successful adults. We work very hard to create a comprehensive curriculum so players develop fundamentals and play the game properly. If we did not prepare our athletes to play in games, then we're also teaching them not to be prepared for life. We teach our athletes at Maple basketball to put 100% effort into everything they do - on the basketball court and in life. A season consists of approximately 3 to 4 weeks of practices. Teams will scrimmage against other schools. The big event is a large tournament between schools in the region. Below are the Catholic School District and York Region Public School District schools. These are schools in the same area, so they will likely be pooled together into one tournament. Winner of this tournament can carry on, to further compete against other districts.
Basketball players in York Region who want to have a longer basketball season will typically join a rep team. There are rep teams in maple, Thornhill, Richmond hill, Vaughan, and many other cities. Many of these Club organizations run year round practices, tournaments, and games. While playing for your local school is a great option, it is a very short season. Rep basketball teams are formed at the club level and typically consist of players from a specific geographic area or community. The teams compete against other rep teams from across the province in a series of leagues, tournaments, and playoffs. The purpose of rep basketball is to provide a higher level of competition for skilled and dedicated players, and to help them develop their skills. REP is short for representative. REP teams represent their city or town. If you live in Maple, you may want to play for your local basketball team. AAA being the highest, AA being in the middle, and A being the lowest division. OBA ranks teams if you play sanctioned OBA games. Game results are sent to the OBA, they crunch this data, and then they report rankings. Teams are ranked and re-ranked several times per year. At the end of the year there is a large OBA tournament, and this tournament determines the championships for the year. |
